What is a release assurance summary

A release assurance summary is a short document confirming that a specific release of a system is fit to go live, built from the evidence gathered during that release cycle. It is the compact, decision facing counterpart to the full, detailed validation record behind it.

Why it matters more under CSA

As testing shifts toward risk based, unscripted approaches for lower risk functionality, a single summary tying together what was tested, what the risk based rationale was, and what the outcome was becomes more important, not less. It is the document that lets someone approving a release actually understand the assurance picture without reading every underlying test record.

What belongs in a good summary

A clear statement of what changed in this release, the risk based rationale for how each change was tested, a summary of results including any issues found and how they were resolved, and the explicit sign off confirming the release is approved to proceed.

Where this goes wrong

A summary that simply restates that testing happened, without actually explaining the risk based reasoning behind the testing approach, does not give an approver enough to make an informed decision. It becomes a rubber stamp rather than a genuine assurance document.
